THE source of the saucy sounding “Worcestershire Monkey” dance can be seen at the annual Shenley fete on Sunday.
The Wicket Brood Morris dancers, who hail from Bricket Wood and whose “famous” signature dance has been performed in places as far flung as New Zealand and Canada, are to perform at the event.
The Worcestershire Monkey is a dance for eight people and is one of the most popular Border Morris dances worldwide.
One of the organisers of the fete Peter Bourton described the purple-clad Wicket Brood, renowned for purple faces and outlandish hair styles, as “Morris dancers with attitude”.
Peter said that there would be plenty of entertainment and activities for visitors of all ages - the event regularly draws a crowd of up to 2,000 – including a falconry display showcasing various birds of prey. The fete will also have plenty of food and beverages, including a beer tent, cake stalls and hog roast.
There is a 50p entry fee for the charity fundraiser.
It is being held from 12.30-4.30pm at Harris Lane playing fields with ample parking adjacent to the fields.
