AN INFANT and junior school will be merged for the start of the next academic yearin September.
The Office of the Schools Adjudicator has agreed the decision to close Killigrew infant and junior schools and establish a new community primary school.
The combined school will continue to use the same site and buildings as the original infants and junior school in West Avenue, Chiswell Green.
The proposal to amalgamate the two schools received a large measure of public support but a few reservations from staff meant that it was referred to the Schools Adjudicator.
The head of the infant school had already become acting head of the junior school following the resignation of its head teacher due to long-term illness.
It was the success of the single leadership that prompted the Local Education Authority (LEA) to set about making the arrangement permanent with the formal creation of one primary school.
