Santas to the starting blocks for St Albans jingle bell jog

Rennie Grove Hospice Care is calling on local people to join in with some festive fun in St Albans to help the charity keep patients at home with their families this Christmas.
The popular fundraiser sees hundreds of families every year taking part in either a 1.5km Reindeer Run wearing antlers and flashing noses, or a 5km Jingle Bell Jog dressed in Santa suits.
The shorter route costs £10 to enter and is open to reindeer of all ages so is perfect for little ones to run, walk or toddle. The Jingle Bell Jog is for over 10s and costs £17 to take part. Santa suits or reindeer accessories are included in the entry fee, and everyone will receive a well-deserved medal at the finish line.
This year’s event will take place on Sunday December 6 starting at Waterend Barn, St Peter’s Street, and will include a visit from the Alban Arena panto stars.
Fundraising and marketing director Gillian Barnett said: “The Jingle Bell Jog is a much-loved event and is guaranteed to get you feeling Christmassy! There is a fantastic atmosphere as St Albans pulls together to support local families.
“Last year, we raised £10,000 – enough to fund 500 hours of nursing care for local patients suffering from life-limiting illnesses. It’s hoped that this year the event will raise even more to support our services, which are provided both at Grove House in St Albans and in patients’ homes.
“We know that many children are keen to support charities, so we’ve put together a special fundraising pack to give them some top tips on how to raise sponsorship.
“The pack also includes a Christmas-themed biscuit recipe, a sponsorship form, and a poster template for them to design and help us spread the word. Just £20 could provide an hour of specialist nursing care, and we hope the festive fundraising ideas will enable children to reach this target and have fun at the same time. As an extra incentive, there are chocolate goodies on offer as a prize for the highest fundraiser!”
