WATCH out Santa's about - Father Christmas is coming to town and he will be touring the streets of Harpenden right up until Christmas Eve.

Harpenden Round Table and their Santa's sleigh will be riding around local roads throughout the whole of December between the hours of 7pm and 9pm each weekday evening.

Santa will be accompanied by Christmas music and Round Table members with collection buckets. The three charities which will benefit from this year's efforts are Keech Cottage Children's Hospice, Cancer Research UK and Round Table Children's Christmas Wish, which organises special days out for children with life-threatening illnesses.

Fundraising Officer for Harpenden Round Table Mark Sanders said he was looking forward to the tour and added: "We raised 6,900 for charity last Christmas and we very much hope that despite these challenging economic times, Harpenden's residents will be just as generous this year."

St Albans Round Table's flashing red sleigh will also be taking its annual tour around St Albans and Redbourn next month, starting on December 7 and ending on December 24.

Santa can also be spotted in Wheathampstead today (Thursday/26) when he will be the guest of honour at the Christmas lights switch-on ceremony. He will be arriving on his sleigh at MacIntyre Care Home on Station Road to meet the residents and join in a Christmas sing-song before turning on the lights at 6pm.
