A teacher has received a national award for his contribution to education.
BTEC media teacher, John Branney, who lives in Sandridge, has been named Teacher of the Year in the 2016 Shine School Media Awards after he was nominated by one of his students at DLD College London.
The Shine Awards is a competition where students in secondary schools produce a media publication to win national recognition of their efforts.
John won the award for his help creating the college magazine ‘Fiyar’ and was nominated by one of his students for providing lasting and solid support with the project. He also creates YouTube videos showing students how to use InDesign - publishing software used to produce magazines and newspapers - racking up more than 9,000 views.
Student Yasmine Adams, who nominated the media teacher, believed that John deserved the award because he “incorporates learning styles and preferences to make sure students feel they can achieve”.
John added: “I am overwhelmed to have been even nominated, let alone to have won the award.
“I am truly passionate about media and helping students achieve their potential and so I am grateful for the recognition.”
