One of St Albans’ most historic churches is treating visitors to tea and cake on Sundays throughout August - starting from today.

Visitors to St Leonard’s in Sandridge, which celebrated 900 years since its consecration last year, will be offered refreshments between 3-5pm on August 9, 16 and 23.

Curate Reverend Peter Crumpler said: “On three Sundays in August, we’re offering refreshments to our visitors who drop in to have some quiet time, to pray and reflect or to look around the village’s beautiful centuries-old church. We want to give them a special welcome.”

The church, which contains Roman bricks, Norman columns and Victorian stained glass, is usually open to visitors on weekdays from 9am until 3pm, and on Sundays until after the 6pm evening service.
