Sack for teacher who punished pupils by stripping in front of them

A BIZARRE punishment which involved an overweight middle-aged teacher stripping in front of a class of teenagers ended in his sacking.

The supply teacher from the Radlett office of the UK Teaching agency threatened a class of 13 and 14-year-olds at a Suffolk school that he would strip off if they did not stop misbehaving.

When the threat resulted in further disruption, the teacher proved true to his word and took of his shirt - but he was secretly on a mobile phone filmed by one of the students.

The video ended up on the internet site YouTube under the heading 'Teacher Strip'. And when the head of Sudbury Upper School found out about the incident the teacher was asked to leave the school immediately.

When the unnamed teacher gave his warning, pupils began to goad him with comments like: "I bet you haven't got muscles."

But the teacher took the bait saying: "Look I'll show you."

A message accompanying the footage, which has been viewed more than 800 times, warned people not to be eating when they watched it.

A Suffolk County Council spokesperson commented that as soon as the head teacher was made aware of the incident, the supply teacher in question was asked to leave the school premises immediately.

"The matter was also reported immediately to the supply agency that employed him," he added.

"The agency who supplied him was UK Teaching from Herts. No children were put at risk during this incident but the teacher's behaviour was both unprofessional and inappropriate and the school took the immediate, appropriate action to terminate his employment."

The spokesperson went on to say that although no formal action had been taken to ban the teacher from working in Suffolk schools, they would be advised about the incident and 'it would be unlikely he would be considered a suitable candidate.

UK Teaching refused to comment.
