Royal Wedding fever sweeps through St Albans

As Prince William and Kate Middleton tie the knot later this month there will be a total 61 street parties taking place in the district, where more enthusiasm has been shown for the big day compared to anywhere else in the county.
MORE street parties to celebrate the Royal Wedding are set to take place in Herts compared to anywhere else in the country – and the St Albans district is topping the local pile.
Herts County Council (HCC) has received 298 applications to host parties on April 29 – outstripping other areas by more than 200 – and 61 of those were from streets in the St Albans district wanting to share in the excitement of Prince William and Kate Middleton’s big day.
Rob Smith, assistant director of transport management at HCC, said: “We wanted to make it as easy as possible for residents to apply for a Royal
Wedding street party. Going by the large number of applications we’ve received, our straightforward online application form and the decision to waive the normal road closure fee has clearly done the trick!
“It’s fantastic that Hertfordshire’s residents have shown such enthusiasm for this special day and we’re glad we’ve been able to help so many communities come together and celebrate.”
