As Prince William and Kate Middleton tie the knot later this week there will be a total 61 street parties and numerous other celebrations taking place in the district.

MORE than 60 street parties to celebrate Prince William and Kate Middleton’s marriage are set to take place in the district on Friday – but if Royal Wedding fever hasn’t swept through your road then there are numerous other ways to mark the occasion.

New Greens Residents Club in High Oaks, St Albans, in partnership with church organisation Christ Church have gone all out to organise a Royal Wedding knees-up for anyone who wants to get into the spirit of the day.

The club will be screening the big event live followed by a community fun day featuring attractions including a bouncy castle, candy floss, toddler play area, face painting, sit-on train rides, a fire engine, ice cream, cake games and a barbecue.

Youth and community worker Martin Podmore – known as Pod – will be undertaking a charity head shave for the occasion and there will also be a disco from 8pm until late.

The Farmer’s Boy, London Road, St Albans, will be opening at 10am to screen the event and serve a Royal Wedding breakfast. “Posh nosh” pub grub will be served between 12pm and 6pm while there will be a steak night between 6pm and 9pm. Guests can even sample the special Royal Wedding ale brewed by the pub’s very own micro-brewery.

A traditional English garden party will be held at Kashu Restaurant, Hatfield Road, St Albans, on the big day. The event will be screened on plasma TVs from 11am and from 9am there will be tea/coffee, Pimms or bucks fizz with bacon rolls or pastries. A barbeque will then take place from midday. Tickets are �10.95 per adult and �5.95 per child. Under 5s eat free.

Luxury hotel Sopwell House in Cottonmill Lane, St Albans, is offering local residents the chance to celebrate in real style. It will be laying on a Royal Wedding Breakfast in The Brasserie ahead of the wedding being screened in the Terrace Bar or Cocktail Bar. There will also be Royal Wedding afternoon tea including a specially created cocktail for the day. Booking is required.

Aylett Nurseries in St Albans will be holding a Bank Holiday Jamboree on Royal Wedding day with the Melody Room Jazz Band playing between 11am and 3pm and a special menu available in the Dahlia coffee house.

Throughout the bank holiday weekend the Inn on the Park in Verulamium Park will be laying on a lavish Royal Wedding breakfast between 9am and midday, followed by a regal afternoon tea until 5pm.

Prince Wool-liam and Kate MintSauce-ton are just two of the names appearing in the sheep race at Willows Farm Village near St Albans during the Royal Wedding weekend.

The farm village is gearing up for a four day celebration of the forthcoming regal nuptials with red, white and blue bunting, a wedding themed children’s show and the royally-inspired sheep race.

Each sheep taking part in the race is named in honour of a member of the royal family including; Princess Ewe-genie, Princess Baaa-trice, Lamb-illa Parker Bowles and Prince Chops. Children can cheer on their favourite to win the 200 metre race.

Any child called William or Kate will get free admission on the big day when accompanied by a full paying adult and all children will receive a token for a free ice lolly.

The district council are also getting into the spirit of things – all council-owned NCP car parks in St Albans and Harpenden will be offering free parking. Check the council’s website for further detail.

The Westminster Lodge and Harpenden leisure centres will also be offering complimentary week-long membership to any locals called William or Kate. Scott Machen, contract manager for Leisure Connection, which operates the facilities for the council, said: “We’re not sure how many William and Kate’s are out there but we hope to see as many as possible – and you never know, our local William and Kate’s may even find a love of their very own!”
