A DELAY in providing extra lighting on a footpath where a woman was attacked has led to a clash on St Albans District Council.

Batchwood councillors Roma Mills, Eleanor Harris and Martin Leach requested additional lighting along the footpath at the top of Temple View in Oysterfields after the attack there.

Cllr Mills said: "We were told in July that additional lighting to enhance the security of the field alongside Oysterfields would be in place by this autumn."

But council leader Robert Donald said installation had been delayed because it was decided to also include floodlighting of the play area in Oysterfields.

Cllr Donald added: "I am quite taken aback that criticisms have been levelled at this attempt to work more efficiently and save taxpayers' money. What everyone in Oysterfields will be getting is a £20,000 investment in tackling anti-social behaviour and improving the quality of life for the residents.
