ROCKY the Rottweiler was rescued from an icy pond by St Albans firefighters yesterday evening.
The dog had bounded onto the frozen pond opposite The Waffle House on St Michael's Street and, because the ice was so thin, its rear legs went straight in.
The dog's owner spent 15 minutes trying to get Rocky out before he rang the fire brigade, who successfully lassoed the dog with a rope and had him out of the water within half-an-hour.
Crew commander Jules Tasker said that both the dog and owner are now safe and well and added: "Going on an icy pond is very dangerous and even if you are trying to rescue a pet, we would always advise people never to step out onto the ice.
