These are the roadworks on your commute to work this week...

M25 junction 23 (South Mimms) to junction 24 (Potters Bar): Electrical work will start this week. The clockwise carriageway will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, from Monday, March 19 for four nights. A diversion will be in place via the A1 southbound, A406, and the A10 northbound to the M25 junction 25.

M1 junction 6a (Bricket Wood): There are repairs being made to the central barriers. The southbound carriageway will be closed overnight between 10pm and 5am from Tuesday, March 20 for six nights. Works on Friday will start at 11pm. A diversion will be in place via the M25 clockwise to junction 22 and return to junction 21a and the A405 westbound to the M1 junction six. The southbound carriageway will have narrow lanes and a 50mph speed limit in place 24 hours a day.

M25 junction 23 (South Mimms): Carriage sweeping will start this week. The anti-clockwise exit slip road will be closed overnight between 10pm and 5am on Wednesday 21 March. A diversion will be in place via junction 22 and return.

A1(M) junction six (Welwyn): Carriage repairs are being carried out. The northbound exit slip road will be closed overnight between 10pm and 5am on Thursday, March 22. A diversion will be in place via junction seven and return. The southbound entry slip road will be closed overnight between 10pm and 5am on Thursday, March 22. A diversion will be in place via the A1(M) northbound to junction seven and return.

A1(M) junction three (Hatfield): Carriage repairs are being carried out. The northbound exit slip road will be closed overnight, between 11pm and 5am, on Friday, March 23. A diversion will be in place via junction four and return.

M1 junction 6a (M25): Bridge joint replacement will continue this week. The southbound link roads to the M25 in both directions will be closed overnight between 9pm and 8am on Saturday, March 24. A diversion will be in place via junction six, the A405 and the A41 to the M25 junction 20.

M25 junction 22 (London Colney) to junction 23 (South Mimms): There are resurfacing works this week. The anti-clockwise carriageway will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, on Sunday, March 25. A diversion will be in place via the A1(M) northbound to junction three, the A414, and the A1081 to re-join the M25 anti-clockwise at junction 22.

I should probably have taken the hint! Walking out into the garden recently an unprecedented flock of thirty or more crows raucously greeted me from the treetops at the bottom of my garden. Cawing and croaking these big, black birds clung clumsily to the top most branches and twigs, jostling and flapping to stay balanced in a constant flurry of feathers. There is always something ominous about crows – they are after all carrion crows, the vultures of the bird world – always watching for scraps and weakness that might mean their next meal.
