The A405 North Oribital Road, between Tippendell Lane and the Noke roundabout in Chiswell Green has now reopened after closing for three hours this morning (Monday) when a refrigerated van caught fire resulting in a diesel spillage.
The driver stopped the vehicle in the middle of the dual carriageway after the engine ignited. The blaze then spread to the passenger side of the van.
Two fire engines from St Albans and Garston station were called out at about 7am. Firefighters used thermal imaging cameras to determine that the cylinders in the refrigerated van were cool in order to prevent a gas explosion.
