A BUSY road linking Harpenden and Redbourn is to be closed for up to 10 days. It means traffic between the two places will be diverted through St Albans, adding miles to journeys.

The stretch of Redbourn Lane between its junction with the Harpenden Lane/Redbourn bypass roundabout and its junction with the St Albans Road/Walkers Road roundabout will be prepared for resurfacing in January and the work will be completed in May.The stretch of road, which is just under two miles long, will be closed between 7.30am and 6.30pm Monday to Sunday inclusive. The alternative route for traffic will be via the A1081, Batchwood Drive and the A5183.

A spokesperson from Herts County Council said: "The road has to be closed in order to carry out the work safely and the improved road surface and safety improvements will be of benefit to all road users. Nearer the time, signs with full details of the closure times and dates will be displayed on the road.
