Changes are underway in central Harpenden where speed restrictions and new parking bays are being introduced to make a busy thoroughfare safer.

Herts county councillor for Harpenden south west Teresa Heritage said that 20mph signs were being installed on Leyton Road, along with two new parking bays near Park Hall.

Signage for the speed and parking changes will be in place by the end of this month.

Cllr Heritage said the bays should provide a “traffic calming measure” during off-peak times.

The modifications will be reviewed in about six months time.
