THIRTEEN ponies were left in field near a busy road which prompted concerns that they could escape and cause an accident.

The ponies were put in the arable field along Shenley Lane between the Napsbury Estate and South Cottages last Monday night after the owners were ordered to move them from another field along the road.

Most of the ponies were mares in foal and the police were alerted because of fears that the horses would get out and cause a road accident.

Two Police Community Support Officers (PCSOs) attended the scene and a police spokesperson said they spent time with local residents making the field secure.

The ponies were collected from the field on Christmas Eve morning at around 8am and herded along Shenley Lane.
