More than 10,000 people turned out in Olympic year to enjoy Harpenden’s Rio-themed carnival.
Families enjoyed a colourful day out at the carnival, which took place on the Harpenden Common, raising nearly £10,000 for different charities.
A range of activities were available including ferret racing, a ride on a rodeo bull and a life-size polar bear, which was popular with children.
Different food and craft stalls were available as well as live music from local school bands.
Former England Blind Football captain, David Clarke, also took part in the event and gave children the opportunity to practice taking penalties blindfolded while other sports organisations laid on taster sessions.
Local groups took part in the procession which was led by Garden City Samba band and spectators danced along as it passed.
Mayor of Harpenden, Cllr Nicola Linacre, said: “It was lovely to see so many people enjoying their day.
“The town council is extremely grateful to all the volunteers who make this event possible.”
The annual carnival has taken place for more than 50 years and is organised by Harpenden Round Table and the town council.
Carnival chair Joe Avison, from the Round Table, added: “The logistics involved with providing the procession and the huge variety of acts and attractions we try to provide, makes it a huge job for one organisation.
“Harpenden Town Council has been amazing and we want to say a huge thank you.
“We are very proud to have raised nearly £10,000 for our charities and good causes.”
