St Albans Olympic star Olivia Federici has arrived in California for training and a synchronised swimming competition ahead of Rio 2016.

With just 28 days remaining until the start of summer’s Olympic Games, the 26 year old tweeted that she and duo partner Katie Clark had an “awesome day” last Friday (1) being kitted out with Team GB.

They caught a flight to America on Monday.

A spokesman for British Swimming said that the swimmers are to compete in the 2016 Synchro America Open, being held in California, as part of the build up to the Olympics which kick-off on August 5.

Training takes place in California and then the swimming duo compete in the US Open from July 14-16.

They then travel to Rio on August 4.

Olivia is the most experienced member of the synchronised swimming squad, having already competed at two Olympics – including London 2012 – and four world championships.

Team GB said that with a month to go until the Games, athletes are busy fine-tuning preparations and that “no one is resting on their laurels”.

The Rio 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Organising Committee said on Tuesday (5) that the “dress rehearsals are nearly over” for the first Games in South America, and Rio de Janeiro is “ready for Olympic showtime”.
