Remembrance Day this Sunday will be marked by parades and services across the St Albans district.

The parade in St Albans will start outside Marks and Spencer in St Peter’s Street from 10.40am and make its way to the war memorial near St Peter’s Church for a 10.50am start to the annual service.

The Rev Anne Hollinghurst, Vicar of St Peter’s, will conduct the service which will last approximately 30 minutes. This year there will also be participants from St Albans United Synagogue, St Albans Islamic Centre, SS Alban and Stephen Roman Catholic Church and Dagnall Street Baptist Church.

The Mayor, Cllr Annie Brewster, and the macebearer will be accompanied by Honorary Aldermen and councillors from all tiers of local government as well as members of youth groups such as scouts and guides.

The Mayor said: “Please come along to the Remembrance Day service in St Peter’s Street on Sunday. We all owe a debt of gratitude to everyone who has given their lives for this country. This is our opportunity to stand with those who are grieving and show respect to those who have been affected by recent conflicts.”

The parade in Harpenden will form at the Royal British Legion Club in Leyton Road at 10.20am before walking up the War Memorial on the High Street.

In Sandridge, an Act of Remembrance will be held at 10.45am at the Lychgate outside St Leonard’s Church. It will be followed by a short Service of Remembrance inside the church to which everyone is welcome.

The Rev Em Coley, Vicar of Sandridge, said: “We will gather to remember and honour the lives of those given in war, to pray for those still caught up in conflict and to pray for peace. We encourage all local people to join us for these important services.”
