Members of the public are invited to pay their respects to those who have fallen in recent conflicts at an Armed Forces Day service this Saturday. (25).

It is being held at 3pm at the memorial outside St Mary’s Church in Marshalswick and will be attended by the Mayor of St Albans, Cllr Frances Leonard, as well as veterans and members of ex-service organisations.

Sandridge parish Cllr John Foster, who is organising the service, said: “Now more than ever we should recognise the brave men and women of our armed forces who sometimes serve in inhospitable terrains.

“We’re in troubled times and it’s so important that we recognise their service and what they do for our nation.”

Refreshments will be available in the church hall afterwards.
