NO refuse or recycling services will be going out in the St Albans district today (Monday) because of the weather conditions.

St Albans District Council, which only has a limited service in its customer care centre, thinks it is unlikely that the refuse service will operate tomorrow either.

In addition all the museums and the Maltings Arts Theatre are closed because of staff shortages as well as Batchwood Tennis and Golf Centre, Westminster Lodge outdoor facilities and Bricket Wood Sports Centre.

London Colney Recreation Centre is closing at 2pm and Harpenden Public Halls are now closed.

The council's customer care centre is to close at 4pm although the situation will be reviewed during the day. Emergency calls during the day should be made to 01727 866100 which will switch to the out-of-hours service from 4pm.

A limited housing repairs and caretaking service is in operation and there will be no home visits as staff will be focusing on emergencies.

Tonight's plans (central) meeting at the council offices has been cancelled but the Tourist Information Office is open as is Harpenden Sports Centre and swimming pool.
