Redbourn PSCO climbs mountain in memory of godson

POLICE Community Support Officer (PCSO) Alli Dewar is climbing Mount Kilimanjaro tomorrow (Friday) in memory of her godson who died at the age of 18 months.

Alli, 38, who is a PCSO in Redbourn, is embarking on the seven-day trek to raise money for Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) which treated her godson Harrison before he lost his battle with cancer in December 2007.

She said: “I will forever feel indebted to the staff at GOSH for the support they gave us and the treatment they gave Harrison.

“He wasn’t just a patient to them – he was a child. When we look back on Harrison’s time there, we have comfort and happy memories as well as the heartache so I want to support the hospital as much as possible in honour of his memory.”

Alli’s fundraising began in July last year when she climbed Ben Nevis in Scotland and she also ascended Jebal Toubkal in North Africa last September.

She has met the cost of the trip herself so all the proceeds can go to charity and her sponsorship total stands at more than 1,000 so far.

Alli added: “I wanted to take it to the next level with this challenge for myself but also to raise money for a great place. Now I can’t wait to go!”
