Redbourn golf club boss tackles Three Peaks Challenge

RUNNING two golf clubs proved no handicap for Tristan Hall when he helped to raise thousands of pounds for the charity Help for Heroes after completing the gruelling Three Peaks Challenge.
Tristan, general manager of Aldwickbury Park and Redbourn Golf Clubs, joined 10 other golf industry professionals in the challenge which saw them climb the UK’s three highest peaks – Snowdon, Ben Nevis and Scafell Pike – in a time of 22 hours 45 minutes.
The team has raised just over £28,000 for the Help for Heroes charity to date, specifically supporting the Battle Back initiative, a tri-service organisation which uses Adaptive Adventure Training and Sports Rehabilitation to help seriously wounded service personnel gain confidence and return to an active life.
The climbers began their daunting challenge at 3.55am and had conquered the UK’s highest peak, Ben Nevis in Scotland, in four hours. They were spurred on by words of encouragement from world number three golfer, Lee Westwood, a Help for Heroes ambassador.
Next was Scafell Pike in the Lake District which the team scaled in three hours, 25 minutes. The four-hour drive to North Wales for the last leg afforded the team a short rest before tackling Snowdon, which they climbed in four hours, 30 minutes, finally completing the challenge at 2.40am the following day.
Mr Hall said: “It was the most painful thing I’ve ever done, There were times when I was thinking how much my legs hurt and was struggling to breathe but then your mind turns to the guys that we are doing the challenge for. They have been through worse things than you could ever imagine and it really spurred you on. It was tough physically and mentally, everyone in the group had highs and lows and we all worked together to help each other through.
“The main aim of the Challenge was to raise as much money for Help for Heroes Battle Back Golf as possible. The sum raised currently stands at just over £28,000 and the team is still working to exceed £30,000 by the time we present a cheque to Battle Back Golf in early September.”
