CREATING the world’s longest pasta chain is what a group of Beavers hope will earn them a spot in the Guinness World Records.

Members of the Redbourn Priory Beaver Scouts gathered on Saturday to string together pieces of penne pasta in an attempt to set a new world record.

The children had aimed for their chain, which they assembled around Redbourn Common cricket pitch, to be at least 500m.

But after reaching nearly 600m on the day, the hopeful record-breakers are now keeping their fingers crossed the attempt will be given the seal of approval by officials in four weeks time.

Leader Lesley Kinsella said: “The children are very excited because they think they are going to be famous. It is something a bit quirky and if they can get their names in print that will be fantastic. We are really hopeful that the children will be successful.”

The Beavers have donated all the pasta, which was given to them by Sainsbury’s, to the Rev Will Gibbs from St Mary’s Church for his pigs to enjoy.
