THE Rwandan rebel who was found guilty of killing a St Albans man and seven other western tourists trekking in Uganda has been given a 15-year prison sentence. Jean Paul Bizimana was found guilty last week of the murder of eight tourists, including 23-year-old Mark Lindgren (pictured) from Battlefield Road and three other Britons, and a Ugandan game warden. He was sentenced on Friday following a trial in the Ugandan capital, Kampala, which started in November. He could have faced the death penalty. Bizimana, aged 32, was one of a gang who abducted a group of 14 tourists on a mountain gorilla trekking expedition in the Bwindi National Park in 1999. Some of the hostages were released but the rebels went on the kill the others. Mark, who had llived in St Albans with his parents John and Ann, decided to take the trip after graduating from Nottingham University the previous year. Three other Rwandans have been charged in the U.S. in connection with the deaths of the two Americans.
