A CHILDREN'S nursery as been awarded a £25,000 grant to create a new play space.

Artisans Montessori Kindergarten which is based at Crabtree Fields Scout HQ in Waldegrave Park, Harpenden, was one of only a few groups nationwide to receive the grant from Central Government.

Said Artisans owner and manager, Ruth Martin: "Our application includes structures and equipment for a sensory garden as well as an outdoor role play area, building materials, lots of gardening, exciting IT opportunities like bird boxes with webcams, wet play suits, sail covers to guarantee we can be out everyday, a huge sandpit, water features and all the more traditional bikes, scooters and climbing frames."

Ruth, a mother of four young children herself and a teacher with many years experience, is confident that the new play space will capture the imagination of the children.

She added: "It will be such fun outside, no-one will want to be indoors.
