THE PARK Street rail freight decision, which was due next week, has been delayed until June.

In a letter to interested parties, it was announced the Secretary of State (SoS) for Communities and Local Government, Eric Pickles, would be postponing his response which was expected on April 5.

The future of the 3.5 million sq. ft. strategic rail freight interchange (SRFI) on the former Radlett Airfield has been hanging in the balance after developers Helioslough won a judicial challenge in the High Court over the Secretary of State’s decision to overrule his planning inspector and refuse the scheme last year.

Mr Pickles’ department revealed yesterday that he didn’t feel he was in a position to reach a decision on the appeal by the expected date. He felt that there were implications for the proposal following the new National Planning Policy Framework, which came into force this week.
