RAIDERS who slipped into a St Albans health store in broad daylight yesterday (Monday) afternoon escaped by blending into the Christmas crowds.
They targeted Holland and Barrett in St Peter's Street at about 3.30pm and slipped into the stock room at the rear of the store while staff were busy with customers. They then went upstairs to the staff room where they stole an office telephone and money from an employee's purse.
Carl Fawcett, an employee who was at the bank when the thieves struck, said that he and his manager Heather Eyley didn't suspect a thing: "We didn't even notice that we'd been robbed until I went upstairs in the afternoon and saw the mess. The shop gets so busy this time of year that it's sometimes impossible to keep an eye on everybody.
