A MAJOR engineering project which will provide Radlett residents with a reliable gas supply until the end of the century is due to start next week.

National Grid, in partnership with Morrison Utility Services, will be upgrading 900 metres of gas mains on a stretch of Watford Road over the course of the next 15 weeks.

Starting on Monday, the existing iron mains along Watford Road from Park Road to Willow Way will be replaced with new, long-lasting plastic pipes that have a lifespan of at least 80 years if left undisturbed in the ground.

To carry out the work safely, Watford Road will be reduced to one lane of traffic in those sections where work is taking place and temporary traffic lights will be used to control traffic flows.

National Grid construction operations engineer Julian Yaxley explained: "We would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused by our works and assure people that every effort will be made to minimise any disruption.
