A FARM in Radlett narrowly avoided devastation following a haystack fire yesterday.
St Albans firefighters arrived at Wild Farm on Harper Lane shortly after 5.30pm to extinguish the fire, which was starting to spread to the surrounding crops.
To extinguish the fire, which was burning from the haystack’s centre, firefighters pulled the stack apart, soaked it with water and then dragged the hay out with rakes.
Bar a few charred crops around the haystack’s base, there was no lasting damage. The cause of the fire is still unknown.
