Several racing pigeons have been stolen after burglars broke into a coop, killing some in the process.

The thieves took the birds from a coop on Beech Road, St Albans, between 5.30pm on Wednesday (2) and 2pm on Thursday (3).

PC John Cooper, who is investigating, said: “I am keen to speak to anyone who may have seen anything suspicious in the area between the times stated.

“I am also keen to speak to anyone involved in the sport of pigeon racing who may have been offered the birds for sale for breeding purposes.”

The owner of the birds urges those who took them to set them free so they can fly home.

Anyone with information should contact the police via the non-emergency number 101, or anonymously on 0800 555 111.
