Quirky St Albans YouTube hit is back for another series
A YouTube series that received more than 25,000 views is back for a second instalment.
Filming of the St Albans-based series, written by and starring Daniel Quirke, 23, of Batchwood Drive, began this week.
The aspiring actor has written, directed and starred in the series named ‘Quirkology’, which met success when it was first published on YouTube last year.
The comedy series follows Rupert, a quirky character loosely based on Daniel himself, and his daily trials and tribulations.
Both series are set in St Albans, with music from local bands and filming locations such as the Café on the Corner, The Bakehouse, Abigail’s Tearoom and Verulamium Park.
Daniel, who stars as Rupert, said: “A lot of it is based on things that actually happened to me, but slightly exaggerated. It’s a sweet and very charming series.”
The former Parmiters’ student has made numerous appearances in TV shows, commercials and plays, but was unsure of what to do when there was a lull in the work: “I’ve always wanted to be an actor and star in my own creation, so when I was going through a dry patch my agent said ‘if you want to work, create your own work’. So I did.”
The first series saw Rupert struggle in his quest for love, with the follow up series set to show Rupert newly single and in a new job.
Daniel said: “Rupert finds himself in a new environment trying to figure out what he wants to do.
“A lot of people can relate to what Rupert is going through and I wanted to express that in this series.
“This is where we differ – I know and always have known what I want to do and where I want to go.”
Series one will be appearing at this year’s Raindance Festival, with series one available for viewing at www.youtube.com/QuirkologySeries. Fans can expect to see the latest instalment of ‘Quirkology’ in early 2015.
