There are queues on the M1 back to St Albans due to it being blocked by Luton.
Emergency services are on the scene after a pile up at junction 11 closed two lanes.
Cars are being diverted to the hard shoulder, but traffic is backed up to before Hemel Hempstead.
Delays are up to two hours.
