TEN pupils from a Wheathampstead school escaped injury after an estate car and their bus were in collision on a country lane. The children were from Wheathampstead House, an independent primary school which is part of St Albans High School for Girls, when the accident happened last Thursday. The driver of the car suffered head injuries and had to be cut from the wreckage of his car while the pupils, aged between seven and 10, were taken to a nearby house. Nick Dellar, who runs Lemsford Kennels next to the crash site in Green Lanes, Lemsford, and who took the picture (left) said the pupils were taken to his house to play with the animals and added: "We wanted to get them away because they could see from the coach the fire service cutting the man out of the estate car." Impact He added: "I heard the impact - it was a huge bang. My house is literally 15 yards from where the vehicle ended up so I immediately saw it was a school bus." The children were later collected by their parents. The injured driver, a 61-year-old man from Welwyn Garden City, was taken to QE2 Hospital and has been discharged.
