PUPILS at Marlborough School can look forward to a healthy diet in future - and so In what could be a first for Herts, the St Albans school's new caterer will not only be supplying locally-resourced and freshly-cooked healthy meals - the pupils will be able to take the same meals home to their families at the end of the day.
Research suggesting that healthy food improves students' IQ and behaviour has been taken to heart the school's caterers Cucina..
The pupils will have food from their own pizza oven and pasta maker as well as fruit smoothies, freshly-baked bread and salads. Cucina will also provide taste trials for new, unusual dishes, develop sports meals for teams while travelling and link theme days to the curriculum.
The fresh food extends beyond the end of the school day with "take-home deals" in which students can take rotisserie chickens, pasta sauces and 14" pizzas home for their families.
