HUNDREDS of demonstrators marched through St Albans city centre on Saturday to protest against the Israeli attacks on Gaza.

The march, which began outside the Clock Tower at 11am, was organised by the St Albans Stop the War Coalition and supported by the St Albans Islamic Centre and Jamie Mosque.

After peacefully marching up St Peter's Street to the War Memorial, the protestors gathered outside the civic offices for a series of speeches.

The speakers included a St Albans resident from Gaza, members of the Muslim community, the Stop the War Coalition and district councillor Iqbal Zia.

Protesters will be contacting St Albans MP Anne Main and urging her to recognise the plight of the Palestinians and encourage the Government to take a leading role in ending the conflict.
