Hundreds lined the streets of St Albans on Sunday for the annual Scouts’ St George’s parade through the city, with a service ending at the Abbey for the Renewal of Promise.

Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Explorers from the district all took part in the event to commemorate the country’s patron saint, known as the Saint of Scouting all over the world.

St Albans Mayor Geoff Harrison said: “It was very impressive with a number of young people there from the ages of about five or six up to about 20.

“There was a very big turnout, with it being one of the biggest parades the Scouts have had for a long time and the service, led by the Reverend Canon Richard Watson, and organised by retiring Scout district commissioner, Anne Barnes, was lovely.”
