‘Ambitious’ project to build 100 homes in St Albans city centre

A construction company has been selected for a development which will see 100 new homes built in St Albans city centre.
The St Albans district council project will form part of the Civic Centre Opportunities Site (CCOS) redevelopment on the site of the former St Albans Police Station, bordered by Victoria Street, Bricket Road and Civic Close.
Morgan Sindall Construction has been selected as preferred bidder for the project, under a pre-construction services agreement.
The overall CCOS site will be divided into northern and southern sites at the heart of the city centre. The five-storey police station and a former NHS clinic will be demolished to make way for a new residential and commercial development, across two six-storey buildings.
These will house 100 mixed tenure apartments, alongside commercial and retail facilities on the first and ground floors.
There will also be a new basement car park containing more than 100 parking spaces.
Of the newly built homes, around half will be one-bedroom units, 40 per cent will be two-bedroom, and the remainder will be three-bedroom. Around 40 per cent of the homes will be affordable housing units.

The company also delivered the residential Oak Tree Gardens development at the site of the former Museum of St Albans in Hatfield Road.
