Young runners taking part in Rennie Grove Hospice Care’s flagship fundraising event - the Herts 10K on Sunday October 8 - will get an especially loud cheer when they cross the finishing line this year.

For the first time in the 12-year history of the popular multi-terrain event, the first three 12-16s to make it home will be rewarded with a presentation cup and a sash in recognition of their efforts.

Traditionally, the leading male and female adult runners have always received trophies, while bouquets of flowers have been presented to the three participants bringing up the rear.

This year organisers at Rennie Grove are delighted to extend the honours to younger runners to applaud their achievement and to encourage more juniors to take part.

More than 2,000 people descended on Rothampsted Research in Harpenden last year to run, jog or walk the multi-terrain route through Herts countryside.

They raised valuable funds along the way to help fund Rennie Grove’s care and support for people with life-limiting illnesses and their families in Bucks and Herts.

Kate Grigg, head of fundraising in Herts for Rennie Grove, said: “The money raised from events like the Herts 10K is crucial if we are to continue to care for a growing number of local patients.

“We’d love to see more young people taking part, vying for the winners’ trophies and raising funds for local families in need.”

This year even more participants are expected to gather for the starter’s gun and follow the route that again starts and finishes at Rothampsted Research.
