A TREE dedicated to the memory of Princess Diana is likely to die after vandals ripped the bark from it.

Police are appealing for information and witnesses following the incident in Jersey Farm Woodland Park in St Helier Road, St Albans, last week.

The tree, which is 10 years old, was damaged between 6pm on Wednesday, July 16 and 11am on Thursday, July 17.

Pc Jos Bartlett from the St Albans Safer Neighbourhood Team said: "The tree meant a lot to the local community and this incident has really upset them so I am really keen to trace the person responsible. If you were in the area at the time and saw anyone acting suspiciously, saw the incident take place, or know anything about it, then please come forward. Your call could really help our investigation, so it's vital you get in touch."
