Keeping fit is at the top of the agenda for a primary school that is trying to raise funds to build an all-weather running track.
Camp Primary and Nursery School, in St Albans, are hoping to gain votes in the Aviva Community Fund competition to build an all-purpose track in their playground to encourage children to become more active.
The competition offers the chance to win funding for a local community project by gaining votes from the public.
The track will enable children to take part in the Daily Mile initiative, which involves walking for a mile each day, despite the weather conditions. If the school wins the grant, the track is likely to be completed in December next year.
PTA management committee member, Andi Yoxall, said: “We currently use a grassed area bordering the school playground, but this is causing damage, which will increase during the winter months as the grass becomes wet, also creating unsafe terrain.
“Winning this grant would mean we can build an all-weather track which supports the children in this initiative, but that can also be used in other activities such as P.E and sports day.”
