Every aspect of a nursery school inspected by Ofsted has been graded as outstanding.

Batford Nursery School received the unanimous accolade after a rigorous inspection which looked at every aspect of life there.

The inspector noted that the children loved being there and by the time they left, they were confident and independent learners with attainment much higher than typical for their age.

Parents were effusive in their praise for the school and how their children flourished in both their personal and academic development while those with special needs and/or disabilities made rapid progress.

The nursery is the lead agency for the Harpen-den children's centre based at Batford and for the new centre currently under construction in Southdown.

The centres provide integrated services for young children and their families alongside the nursery and Skylarks day care offering year-round day-care provision.

Head teacher Madelaine Lee, whose leadership was described as inspirational, said: "I am proud to lead this outstanding nursery school in which all the children thrive.
