POWER has been restored to Harpenden residents who found themselves in the dark yesterday.

A total of 418 customers lost power in the early hours of Wednesday morning due to a fault on EDF Energy's underground cable network. Engineers managed to restore power to most within a few hours but an unlucky 161 residents went the whole day without electricity.

A spokeswoman from EDF Energy explained: "Due to the location of the fault we were unable to divert power from alternative circuits and could not restore supplies to the final 161 customers until repairs were completed at 10.24pm yesterday."

Those affected were kept up-to-date by EDF Energy throughout the day and the spokeswoman apologised for any inconvenience caused.
