Rennie Grove provides care and support for adults and children diagnosed with cancer and other life-limiting illness and their families.

Every year through its responsive 24/7 Hospice at Home service, family support services and the range of day services at Grove House in St Albans, the charity gives thousands of patients the choice to stay at home, surrounded by their families and friends.

Between February 19-24 a series of visual displays and broadcast information will be on offer in store explaining that support from shoppers is vital to Rennie Grove’s nurses and their patients and that as well as buying, people can help by donating items to be sold or by volunteering to work in the shop too.

Other ways to get involved include attending one of our events, organising your own sponsored activity, keeping a collection box at home or at work or volunteering at one of our events.

Rennie Grove director of retail and trading Deborah Gould said: “Our shops are in the heart of those communities where our nurses provide the type of care to patients that means they can stay at home with their family and friends.

“So there’s no better place for us to hold our Rennie Grove awareness week where shoppers and residents can pop in to find out more about the opportunities to support the charity whilst having a good browse through all the quality goods on sale.

“People will be surprised at the many fun and challenging activities they can take part in to help us raise funds as well as the huge range of volunteering opportunities available both in our shops and throughout our organisation.

“No matter how much or how little time you can spare or what skills you have or might want to learn, we will have something that you can help us with.

“People may also be surprised to know that by spending £25 in one of our shops they will have contributed enough to pay for one hour of specialist nursing care in a patient’s home.”

One of the charity’s patients said: “If it hadn’t been for the Rennie Grove children’s nursing team it wouldn’t have been possible for us to be at home. They made us feel comfortable and confident. If we have any concerns – day or night – they come straight out. They have been absolutely brilliant.”
