POLICE are linking a burglary and a theft from a car which took place in the same road.

A house in Cuckmans Drive in Chiswell Green was burgled between midnight and 7am on Sunday and a number of items were taken.

These included a laptop computer, a digital camera, a mobile phone, a passport and a set of motorcycle keys. A Hugo Boss coat and a wallet were also stolen but were later recovered.

Police believe the burglary was carried out by the same thief, or thieves, who also broke into a car parked on a driveway of a different property along the same road between 6pm on the Saturday evening and 4am on Sunday morning.

In that incident the thief took credit cards and personal documents which were also later recovered. The credit cards were used at 4am and 7am on Sunday at an ATM machine at a petrol station in Harpenden Road in St Albans, although no money was withdrawn.

Pc Angelina Wade from the Local Crime Unit at St Albans is investigating and said: "I am appealing to anyone who saw or knows anything about either incidents or may have seen vehicles being driven suspiciously around the Harpenden Road area to please come forward. These incidents have caused the owners much inconvenience and distress and we need the public's help in tracing those responsible."

Anyone with information should contact PC Wade on 0845 33 00 222 or alternatively call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
