FOUR men were arrested on suspicion of stealing lead from the M1 carriageway-widening work overnight on Sunday following a police helicopter search.
Police were alerted to the incident at around 11.20pm and within 50 minutes they arrested suspects at the caravan site along Watling Street in Park Street, near to the M10 roundabout.
It is believed that the lead from the roadworks at Junction 6 of the M1 was taken away on two flat-bed lorries.
Those arrested included a 21-year-old and a 24-year-old from St Albans, a 17-year-old from Sussex and an 18-year-old from Preston. They remain in police custody.
