The police helicopter was called out to help search for a suspect wanted in connection with an assault in Chiswell Green yesterday.
Officers were called to an address in the village at around 8pm following reports that a man in his 60s had been assaulted.
The suspect had already left the scene, and there were serious concerns for his welfare, prompting the need for a major search of the area.
A 37-year-old St Albans man was subsequently arrested on suspicion of assault and is currently in police custody.
The victim was tended to for bruising to his face by an ambulance.
