THERE will be no increase in the percentage of the next council tax bill which goes to pay for policing.
In line with most other authority, Herts Police Authority agreed yesterday to freeze the amount of council tax people will pay for policing in 2011/12.
The decision was taken despite the authority facing a 20 per cent cut in Government funding which will mean, among other cutbacks, the closing of London Colney police station and the front desk at Harpenden police station.
But it has pledged to maintain Neighbourhood Policing Teams at their current levels and minimise the impact on frontline policing.
The police precept of the average council tax bill amounts to 10 per cent with St Albans district council taking 11 per cent and the largest share, 77 per cent, going to the county council.
