Police who investigated the alleged grabbing of a 12-year-old girl last week in St Albans have concluded that no crime took place.

It was reported to Herts police on Tuesday May 7 that two men took hold of a child outside Marks & Spencer on Russell Avenue and a plea was made for the member of the public who intervened to come forward.

Police have advised that the public have nothing to fear in relation to this. Insp Andy Wiseman said: "Following extensive enquiries by local officers and further work with the girl involved it has been established that no crimes have taken place.

"I understand that following the initial report to police regarding this matter there was considerable concern among the local community, which was voiced via community Facebook pages. However, I would like to reassure you that no offences have occurred and there is no risk to the public."
