TWO teenagers are believed to have been held on suspicion of arson after a major fire broke out in a secondary school this morning (Thursday).
The blaze started in a first floor classroom in a block at Verulam School in Brampton Road, St Albans, and caused substantial damage to at least three rooms and the roof.
Police have confirmed that two teenage boys have been arrested on suspicion of arson.
All students in the school were evacuated before fire crews arrived on the scene.
The fire was put out within an hour and fire crews remain on the scene to cut away parts of the affected roof and dampen down.
A senior prefect at the school said that 10 rooms have been sealed off in the school.
The school has been closed for the day but will be reopened tomorrow (Wednesday) but police are urging parents to check the school's website at www.verulamschool.net for up-to-date news on opening.
Police are appealing for any witnesses to the incident to call them on 0845 3300222.
